| May 2005 – IFS launches The Gibson Index a unique gateway to
British Technology Companies.
|
 |
|
The Gibson Index (www.gibson-index.com)
is the result of an intensive research project lasting more than seven years
and involving dozens of researchers around the UK. It seeks to promote the UK’s
unique treasure store of small technology companies (SMEs), containing some
18,300 early stage start-ups, University spinouts, SME veterans, technology-led
consultancies and business partnerships. The index has achieved a significant
number of 'Firsts'.
-
It is the world’s first national database of early stage
technology companies. It is the first comprehensive survey of British
technology companies, consultancies and business partnerships.
-
It contains the most comprehensive list of British SME
entrepreneurs and company officers, around 18,300 in all. It contains a
complete list of the UK small firms which have received US defence agency
research contracts.
-
It contains a unique list of Britain’s most successful and
active scientist-inventors, a jewel in the crown of the UK economy.
-
It holds a unique national list of the UK’s most successful
academic entrepreneurs, and contains the most comprehensive listing of UK
University spinout companies and consultancies.
-
It contains the most comprehensive list of companies that have
received UK Government research grants and economic development funding.

Marcus Gibson CEO of The Gibson Index
comments:
‘’Creating a database involving some 10,000 initial companies, across a total
of 24 technology sectors all around the UK, could have been a nightmare. But
with Intelligent Financial Systems (IFS) at the helm, we were able to produce a
fully working, multi-dimensional database within three weeks of contract
notification from our first client, the UK's Department of Trade & Industry
(DTI). The site is robust, exceptionally fast yet easy and clear to use. Any
changes requested by the DTI have been implemented in a matter of hours, and
from Gibson Index Ltd's point of view, as a busy research house, we could not
have asked for more from IFS Ltd. A demonstration of this first database site
to other prospective clients looks set to result in a series of further
contracts.’’
